About ISRO (Indian Space Agency)
ISRO, or the Indian Space Research Organisation, is the national space agency of India. Establishment of ISRO
ISRO was established in 1969, succeeding the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), which was founded in 1962 by the visionary scientist Dr. Vikram Sarabhai. Since then, ISRO has grown from a small organisation with limited resources to a major player in the global space arena, with a network of research centres, launch facilities, tracking stations, and satellite systems.
Achievements of ISRO
ISRO’s achievements include launching India’s first satellite, Aryabhata, in 1975 with the help of the Soviet Union, becoming the seventh country in the world to have an indigenous launch capability with the SLV-3 rocket in 1980, developing the PSLV and GSLV rockets for launching various types of satellites, sending missions to the Moon (Chandrayaan-1 and Chandrayaan-2) and Mars (Mangalyaan), creating the world’s largest constellation of remote sensing satellites, and operating the GAGAN and NavIC satellite navigation systems.

ISRO’s current and future projects include the Gaganyaan human spaceflight programme, the Aditya-L1 solar mission, the Chandrayaan-3 lunar landing mission, the Shukrayaan-1 Venus orbiter, the NISAR joint Earth observation mission with NASA, the SSLV small satellite launch vehicle, the RLV reusable launch vehicle, and the SCRAMJET air-breathing engine.
